Taunton School Boys-U15B (JCB) vs Canford School
On: Saturday, 11 Nov 2023
Venue: at Home
After an underwhelming performance at Millfield Taunton needed a response. And they had one. Such was the drive and purpose with which the boys approached this game that one could be forgiven for thinking a different team altogether had walked out on the hallowed turf of Uppers. But it was Canford who made early inroads, Taunton''s politeness and reticence in the middle proving costly, the blue and white waved through for an easy try. But Taunton took the game in hand and hit back with tries from Chin and Armstrong in response to Canford''s soft two. Conversions missed: 14-10 Canford. The game settled into something of a rhythm and it was clear that the sides were evenly matched. Graddon was unfortunate to have a try chalked off, the call ''held up'' - even the Canford subs knew it was a try. But he made no mistake with the next - 15-14 Taunton! Weak defending allowed Canford In again. 19-15 Canford. Taunton hit back yet again but Graddon knocked on over the line. Agonising stuff. Taunton came through once more and scored, Graddon making no mistake with what could have been his fourth of the day after Armstrong''s heroic charge down of a Canford goal line drop. 20-19. With barely any time on the clock, Taunton ran the ball into traffic from our own try line and ended up swamped. Holding on. Penalty. Heartbreak for the dark blue. One that got away. Decision making and protecting the ball on the floor must surely feature in Flower''s next training session but the boys can be proud of how they played today.
