Buoyed by a hard-won victory against Clifton, the U15B squad arrived at QEH's sporting village full of pith and vinegar. Training was efficient, with run throughs promising much and handling drills crisp. So it proved during the opening exchanges as Taunton's superior rucking, particularly in attack, started to show in tight, gritty forward play. Greenhorn utility player Tilekkabylbek showed his potential with a devastating run leading to Taunton's first score, and well-earned it was too (though the less said about his second opportunity, the better). Some soft penalties - discipline was costly in this match - and QEH scored and duly converted, before adding a three-pointer, the captain's decision to point to the posts reflective of the closeness of this arm wrestle of a match. White had hit the posts with a similar effort just moments before. After yet more forward play, Graddon used his bulk to good effect and this time White made no mistake with the extras: 12-10. An unlucky bounce off the restart (and a very short pitch) gifted QEH an easy try for 15-12 before Taunton's discipline deserted them. Captain Armstrong tried valiantly to win the referee over but he saw through it like a cheap shirt. More soft penalties gifted QEH another try for a final score of 20-12. A close game in which Taunton arguably played the better Rugby. Ultimately, though, a tendency to run into traffic and give up easy penalties led to a loss of cool and the scoreline, perhaps, was thus justified.
